The Benefits of Rebounding

Four mini-trampolines set up for a rebounding class

REBOUNDING, A WORKOUT THAT’S ALL ABOUT THE BOUNCE

Looking for a low-impact, high-intensity workout with an added side of giggles? Meet the Rebounder, a mini-trampoline that allows for a rhythmic bounce (or rebound). Rebounding is a cardiovascular exercise that strengthens your entire body, with a particular focus on the legs, glutes, and core. The Rebounder’s bounce support – whether springs or bungees – absorbs most of the impact from jumping, thus decreasing the pressure on the joints. This makes it a great alternative to higher-impact cardio moves like jumping jacks or running. But the rebounding benefits don’t stop at strength and heart health!

Rebounding Benefits:

Bone Health

As we age, maintaining bone density is key in fighting the onset of osteoporosis. A study by NASA found that Rebounding provides an increased G-force, or gravitational force. This can help with maintaining and even enhancing bone density. Take it a step further by pairing rebounding with resistance training for a powerful combo that can amplify the fight against age-related bone and muscle loss.

Improved Balance and Coordination

Your proprioception – or knowing where you are in space – is challenged with the experience of bouncing and working against gravity. Developing stronger proprioception helps improve your motor skills. Building your body awareness and balance can reduce the risk of falling and falling-related injuries.

Stimulates the Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system, responsible for clearing toxins and waste from the body, relies on movement and muscle contraction to make it flow. Moving lymph in the body helps bring down inflammation, removes bacteria and viruses, and moves stagnant fluid that can pool in areas like legs and feet. The up-and-down bouncing motion on the mini-trampoline helps to pump lymph through the body in as little as 15 minutes!

It’s Just Plain Fun!

Rebounding is a fun and exhilarating way to exercise, with classes offering novel movements and playful routines. Changing up your regimen can help prevent overuse on the joints, and will keep your mind engaged. Jumping also increases the uptake of oxygen, which can improve your mood, leaving you feeling more energized and joyful!
