So You’re Ready to Start Training…
You know that a fitness routine is one of the best things you can do for your health, and you’re ready to work with a professional who understands what you need and how to achieve it. You’ve got your gym bag packed… but where do you begin? Well, making that decision is the first step, so high five on that accomplishment! Don’t worry, we’ve got you from here. With our simple guide for how to start a training program, you’ll be on your way to a stronger, healthier, and more energized you. Learn what you need to do before starting, how to find the right Personal Trainer to support your goals, and what to expect when you’re underway.
How to Start a Training Program
Yes, prioritizing physical activity is an excellent reason to start personal training. Exercise helps improve energy and mood, lowers the risk of numerous diseases and health-related complications, and builds stronger bones and muscles. Build an even stronger foundation for success by identifying your motivation and making your goals as specific as possible. For example, this can be increasing your stamina to play with your kids, gearing up for a race, rehabbing from an injury, or simply wanting to feel better in your body. Getting clear on the outcomes you’re hoping to achieve will help you and your personal trainer come up with a plan that’s both safe AND successful. Next, take a look at your schedule; what days and times work best for you to train? Be realistic about your timeline and how often you can commit.
Step 2: Find Your Trainer

Our online Find-a-Trainer tool makes it easy to find your perfect trainer!
Once you’ve determined your goals and availability, use our online Find-a-Trainer tool to get matched with a professional specializing in what you need! From there, schedule a session by messaging them or booking online if available. You can also fill out this online form to get personally matched by our Personal Training Manager.
Your new trainer will assess your objectives and develop a plan on how to train for them. When it comes to training, one size does not fit all. You’ll get a customized plan that suits your needs, fitness level, and lifestyle. Our trainers’ goals are to help YOU achieve yours in a sustainable, efficient manner.
Step 3: Show Up
You’ve done all the setup, now the real fun begins. Time to show up to the gym to start working with your trainer! Wear clothing you can comfortably move in, and closed-toed shoes. We recommend bringing a water bottle and arriving hydrated and fed, but not right after a full meal. Try something light like a protein bar, fruit, or yogurt – something that fuels you, but doesn’t leave you full and sleepy. Speaking of sleep, get a good night’s rest the night before! Feeling groggy or unfocused can lead to a less effective workout at best, or exercise-related injuries at worst.
Step 4: Keep it Up!
Reaching your goals can take time, and exercising is most effective when it’s a lifelong commitment. Consistency is key, and showing up for your sessions will pay off if you stick with it. Your trainer will keep you motivated during your sessions, and they will give you advice on what to do on days you don’t train together. Take that advice – and be open-minded! They may recommend incorporating other modalities to complement your routine, such as Pilates or yoga classes. (Just one of the many great things about Castle Hill Fitness… we have it all under one roof!) Cross-training helps with mobility, flexibility, balance, and overall body awareness – all components of a successful fitness regimen.
Going out of town? Your trainer can work with you virtually. We also have live-streamed classes, as well as a large library of pre-recorded workouts that you can do from anywhere! And remember that any movement is good movement. Even taking a walk is a great way to get your circulation going, improve your respiration, and feel more refreshed and focused.
