STRESS, TRAUMA, & OVERUSE CAN TAKE A TOLL ON YOUR BODY.
What starts out as an acute nagging pain can quickly turn into chronic discomfort – keeping you from doing what you love. Introducing, M.A.T.® a powerful, non-invasive assessment tool that analyzes and corrects muscular imbalances. M.A.T.® focuses on the cause of pain by testing, correcting, and maintaining muscle contractile efficiency. Sessions are done fully clothed and are appropriate for all ages and athletic abilities. Reset your system and restore full muscular functionality with M.A.T.®
WHAT IS MUSCLE ACTIVATION TECHNIQUE?
• A revolutionary approach to assessment and correction of muscular imbalances, joint stability and limitations in range of motion within the human body.
• A non-invasive technique designed to balance the muscular system and correct muscle weaknesses of people of all ages.
•A unique systematic format used to “jumpstart” the muscles in order for them to function with maximum efficiency.
HOW DOES MUSCLE ACTIVATION WORK?
Stress, trauma, and overuse can interrupt the communication between the central nervous system and the muscles. When the communication pathway is altered muscles can’t contract on demand leaving them “weak” with the inability to contract on demand and setting them and the body up for injury and compensation patterns. M.A.T. is a system of checks and balances that restores the communication of the muscles to the central nervous system and ensures proper muscular contraction.
Sessions are done fully clothed on a massage table. The first session is an hour and a half (30min assessment followed by treatment). Following sessions are 1 hour.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF A MUSCLE IS WEAK?
Something just might not feel right. Joint pain, muscle tension, or instability of a joint, or in other words tight hamstrings, tight lower back, shin splints, aching knees or a hyperextended joint. Any feelings of pain or tightness can be signs of possible muscle weakness.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM M.A.T.®?
Muscle Activation Technique is effective for EVERYONE from elite athletes to rehabilitation patients and everyone in between. M.A.T.® is a great assessment and prep for those starting a workout program and wanting to get the most from their workouts.
CAN M.A.T.® HAVE A POSITIVE EFFECT ON ARTHRITIS AND THE AGING PROCESS?
Yes! Muscles are designed to stabilize the joints so any improvement in muscle function may prevent loss of physical performance often associated with arthritis and aging. M.A.T.® ensures proper muscle contraction so when you exercise with load, your body will have the ability to maintain or gain muscle mass, which isn’t possible if the communication between the muscle and nervous system is altered.
MEET OUR M.A.T. PRACTITIONER:
Elite Pilates Instructor + M.A.T. Specialist
Melissa was a track and wrestling student athlete before receiving her BFA in Dance. She discovered Pilates after a dislocated knee took her off the dance floor, and she quickly fell in love with the practice, got certified and opened her own Pilates Studio in Seattle, WA. She has since taken years of wide-ranging continuing education courses and Pilates trainings. Melissa loves to teach Pilates because it helps people feel good and move better – both in their other workouts and daily lives. She is always thinking outside the box and expanding her repertoire to enhance her clients’ experience.
As part of her repertoire expansion, Melissa became a certified M.A.T. (Muscle Activation Technique) specialist in 2017. Her combination of MAT work and Pilates instruction helps clients correct muscular imbalances, joint instability, and limitations within their bodies.
